Rick: She’s good – She’s good at turning off lights. I go with the – I go with the polite version there, too. Shane: You know, I-I don’t actually say that though.

I want to say, “Bitch, you mean to tell me you’ve been hearing this your entire life and you are still too damn stupid to learn how to turn off a switch?” (Deep voice) “You sound just like my damn father! (Snickers) Always-always yelling about the power bill, telling me to turn off the damn lights!” And that’s when the Exorcist voice pops out. (Laughs) Still, man that– that earns me this look of loathing you would not believe.

You see, this is – this is when Reverend Shane wants to quote from the Guy Gospel and say, “Um, darling, maybe you and every other pair of boobs on this planet just figure out the light switch, you see, goes both ways maybe we wouldn’t have so much global warming.” Shane: Then – The same chick mind you she’ll bitch about global warming. Oh, Reverend Shane’s a-preaching to ya now, boy. (Chuckles) And my job, you see, apparently – because my chromosomes happen to be different – is I then gotta walk through that house, turn off every single light this chick left on. I mean every woman I ever let have a key – I swear to God, it’s like I come home, house all lit up. Shane: They’re struck blind the second they leave a room. They’re born thinking the switch only goes one way – on. Shane: I never met a woman who knew how to turn off a light. Rick: What’s the difference between men and women? They share a puddle of ketchup as they eat their fries. The remains of their box meals still set on the seat between them. The sheriff’s deputies have eaten their burgers. Rick’s face is pained and sorrowed as he lowers his weapon. He backs up and pulls out his weapon and puts a bullet in the head of Little Girl Walker. Slowly she starts shuffling toward him gaining speed as she comes. The deputy sighs in disappointment and sorrow. Her mouth is gashed and dried blood has stained her pajamas. He stands up and sees a girl about age eight walking away. He sees a child in a pink housecoat and bunny slippers stoop and pick up a teddy bear. On hearing the sounds he looks in their direction. Dead people still sit in some of the cars. The empty camp is littered with children’s’ toys, tents and household items. He walks past the remains of an eighteen wheeler and more wrecked or abandoned cars and down a hill toward the gas station. Wrecked and abandoned vehicles are scattered across the intersection.Ī sheriff’s deputy gets out and takes a gas can and funnel out of the trunk. The Walking Dead 1: Days Gone Bye was followed by The Walking Dead 2: Miles Behind Us.A Sheriff’s car drives up to the intersection of a Georgia county road. The Walking Dead already has almost one hundred issues…that is plenty of Walking Dead for fans that can’t get enough. The stories are similar enough that a person who watches the show could enjoy it and still find the storylines original enough that it doesn’t feel like rehash.

With the TV series hitting its stride, fans should go back and check out the original series.

The Shane-Lori-Rick storyline could have been developed more ( the TV series at least realizes the potential of this story).

For this book, there are far too many introduced, but as the series goes on, it allows them to evolve. The Walking Dead‘s characters are kind of generic. The black-and-white is good enough that I can image how gruesome with color…blood and guts flying. It is a black-and-white comic and I would love to see it in color (plus that would give Image another way to repackage them). The art for The Walking Dead is good, but not great. Fortunately, Kirkman takes the story in a different direction by pushing the family, and since it is an ongoing series, it has to keep finding new ways to evolve. The beginning of The Walking Dead is virtually identical to the beginning of 28 Days Later, which actually ripped off Day of the Triffids…so it is doubly un-original. The story of The Walking Dead is quite compelling, but very derivative. Issues in this volume were also collected as The Walking Dead Omnibus-Volume 1 and The Walking Dead Compendium-Volume 1 along with multiple reprints. Illustrated by Tony Moore, the series was released to critical acclaim and became a quick success. Written by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead Volume 1: Days Gone Bye is an Image Comics horror comic book collection. When Rick is found by another survivor named Glenn, Rick learns that his wife and son are alive…but his former partner Shane might not be happy about his return. Putting his hope in that his family has gone to Atlanta, Rick finds more danger in the city. Zombies now walk the land and his family has disappeared. When he wakes up he finds the world is a changed place. Rick Grimes is shot in the line of duty and falls into a coma. Reprints The Walking Dead #1-6 (October 2003-March 2004).
